Entrances to our homes are the first opportunity to make a good impression. They are also one of the areas of the home that are used multiple times a day. So they need to function well too. Even though we may not be welcoming visitors to our homes during the pandemic, the time will soon come when we can entertain all of our dear family and friends again. Here are some ideas to help elevate your entrance and make it work for your needs.

Quick Fixes

These simple additions to an existing entryway can improve the functionality and add style.

  • Add hooks
  • Add a place to perch
  • Add a table or shelf

Renovating for Long Term Use

If a renovation is in your future, think about how you could improve the entrance to your home.

Adding a Mudroom

A mudroom is a great addition to any home and will increase its resale value. Wouldn’t it be nice to leave boots, bags, coats and anything else that comes into your home in a room that doesn’t clutter your living space? There are so many great solutions to organize a mudroom from custom cabinetry to IKEA.

If you are planning a renovation, think about adding a mudroom to your wishlist, and then think about how you want to use it. Are closed cubbies a preference so you don’t see any items, or are you ok with exposed hooks for easy access? Do you have little family members that need to access bins on their level? What kind of material will you use for the floors? Think about a durable material that will not become slippery with wet shoes and one that hides the dirt that will inevitably be tracked in.
